Rewards do not work either and now I feel out of options

ADHD child behaviour

What to do right now

Reward charts work for about three days because novelty provides the dopamine the chart needs to function. When the novelty fades, the reward system collapses. This is not your child being manipulative. This is the interest-based nervous system doing what it does. Rotate rewards. Keep them small and immediate. A reward that arrives in a week may as well arrive never. The system needs to match the brain, not the other way around.

What your brain just did

Your body

The reward chart worked for three days and then stopped. The stickers lost their power. The promised reward stopped motivating.

Your brain

Reward systems rely on sustained motivation toward a delayed outcome. ADHD interest-based nervous systems provide motivation through novelty, urgency, and personal interest. When the novelty of the chart fades, the motivational fuel runs out. The reward did not stop working. The dopamine source that powered it expired.

What this did

Rotate rewards frequently. Keep them small and immediate. A reward earned today is worth ten earned next week. The system needs to match the brain's motivational architecture, not the other way around.
