The whole family had to leave because one child could not cope
ADHD parenting moment
What to do right now
Everyone is in the car. The outing is over. One child is still dysregulated. The others are furious or silent. You are managing guilt, logistics, and your own nervous system simultaneously. Do not process it in the car. Get everyone home safely. Address each child separately later. The ADHD child needs: 'That was hard for your body.' The siblings need: 'I know that was not fair to you.'
What your brain just did
Your body
Everyone is in the car. The outing ended early. Multiple children are upset for different reasons.
Your brain
The decision to leave was correct. The cost of staying exceeded the benefit. Every family member experienced it differently and needs a different response.
What this did
Do not process it in the car. Get home safely. Then address each child individually. The ADHD child needs: 'That was hard for your body.' The siblings need: 'I know that was not fair to you.'
