I couldn't fill their prescription and tomorrow is an unmedicated day

ADHD parent behaviour

What to do right now

The pharmacy is out. You have called five others. Tomorrow your child goes to school without medication and you cannot prevent it. Write a note to the teacher tonight: brief, factual, no apology. 'X will be unmedicated tomorrow due to a supply issue. They may need additional support with focus and impulse control.' Then stop trying to fix it. You have done what you can.

What your brain just did

Your body

The dread of tomorrow is sitting in your stomach. An unmedicated school day is a predictable disaster and you cannot prevent it.

Your brain

The supply chain failure is external and beyond your control. Your guilt is misplaced. You did not cause the shortage. The shame of not being able to provide your child's medication is a parenting wound that the system is inflicting, not one you deserve.

What this did

Write the school note. Set up a slightly easier morning. Inform the teacher specifically about what to expect. Then let go of the variables you cannot control.
