I think there is something else going on underneath the ADHD

ADHD parent behaviour

What to do right now

Something does not add up. The ADHD explains some of it but not all of it. The anxiety seems bigger than ADHD anxiety. The mood is lower than it should be. The rigidity goes beyond preference. Trust your instinct. You know your child better than anyone. Talk to the prescriber or ask for a broader assessment. Naming the question is not catastrophising. It is good parenting.

What your brain just did

Your body

The instinct that something else is going on is sitting alongside the fear of what it might mean. You want to be wrong. You also want to know.

Your brain

ADHD frequently co-occurs with anxiety, depression, autism, learning disabilities, and other conditions. Noticing that the ADHD explanation does not cover everything is pattern recognition, not catastrophising. Parents who raise the question early get better outcomes for their children.

What this did

Talk to the prescriber or request a broader assessment. Name the specific behaviours that do not fit the ADHD picture. Trust your observation. You see your child in more contexts than any professional does.
